Seasonal Classes and Summer Workshops offer children the opportunity to continue learning while school is out. Workshops are offered during Chandler Schools Intersession and during the summer months.

Participants must register in advance by calling 480-782-2717.
Suggested $2.00 donation per child.
Workshops are appropriate for children ages 5-11.

 


Seasonal Classes
Classes are held during the October, December and March Chandler School breaks. Classes employ seasonal themes for art, history, science, cooking and activities.

Rock Around Chandler: A 1950s Party Hop!

Calling all cool cats! Grab your saddle shoes and grease your hair back because it’s time to party like it’s 1950 in Chandler! Learn popular fads and fashions from the 1950s, test out some neato toys, make your own nifty fifties invention and perfect your rock n’ roll skills!

If you Lived with the Hohokam

If you lived with the Hohokam what kind of games would you play? How would you make pots and grow crops? Through a variety of hands-on activities and crafts, kids will learn the answers to these questions and more!

Scout Programs
Chandler Museum offers a variety of tours and achievement workshops for Scouts of all ages.
Tour programs and workshops are available year round and can be scheduled for after school or on Saturdays.
Reservations can be made by contacting Julia Farrell at (480) 782-2717.

Payment must be received in full at least two weeks in advance. The maximum class size is 25.

The following tours can be utilized to fulfill a general “Visit a Museum” requirement. Badge and level specific workshops are listed below.

“I Spy” History Detectives
Suggested Program Length: 45 minutes
Cost: Free
Scouts will become history detectives as they search for clues among our permanent exhibits to discover what life was like in Chandler and the surrounding area in times past.

Chandler Pioneers
Suggested Program Length: 1 hour
Cost: Free
No fast food or television! Life was tough for Chandler’s first residents. Cotton farming, ranching and lots of chores were part of the everyday life in Chandler around 1912; the year that Chandler was founded. Children will enjoy traveling back through time and visiting the museum’s tent house, grocery store and learning about Chandler’s agricultural history. Scouts will end their journey by trying their hand at some old-fashion toys!

Badge and Level Specific Workshops
The Chandler Museum currently offers a Brownie Scout “Try-it” workshop. We are working to develop additional workshops at all scout levels! Please refer back to this site at a future date for new programming! Brownie Scouts
Arizona Native American “Try-It”
Suggested Program Length: 2 hours
Cost: $5/Scout
Over 1200 years ago this region was home to the Hohokam Indians. What did they look like? Where did they live? What games did they play? We’ll learn the answers to these questions and more.
Scouts will engage in a variety of activities to learn about the Hohokam and their way of life. By the end of the workshop, the scouts will understand how the Hohokam lived and what happened to them and their connection to today’s Pima Indian tribes. Scouts will make a pot using the traditional Hohokam style, play a Native American game and learn to speak simple words in the traditional Pima Indian language. This workshop completes all the requirements needed to earn the Arizona Native American “try-It” badge.

School Group Tours

The Chandler Museum currently offers a guided tour for third grade students that is designed around the Arizona State Standards for third grade Social Studies.

Time: 1 hour Price per student: Free (Suggested $1 donation per student)

"Life in the Past, a Look at Chandler in 1912"
Cotton farming, ranching and lots of chores were part of the everyday life of Chandler around 1912. Children will enjoy traveling back through time and visiting the Museum's tenthouse, grocery store and learning about Chandler's agricultural history and comparing it to life today.

60 (max.) groups will split into three sections and rotate between each of the three stops on the tour.

"Fire Safety"

At no additional cost, teachers can choose to add a presentation on fire safety to their tour. This enthusiastic presentation is given by a member of the Chandler Fire Department. Children will listen and take part in fire safety drills and exercises while learning valuable life saving tips.

The presentation is given before the tour. If you are interested in adding "Fire Safety" to your tour, please plan for 15 additional minutes to the tour.

Self guided tour materials are available at the front desk at the museum.
