Guest Speaker Series- Bob Martinez
FREE and open to the public.
Directly after the General Membership Meeting is our first Guest Speaker for 2008, Bob Martinez. Bob and Helen Martinez’s families have been in the Chandler area for many decades. Most people will remember several generations of the Martinez family for their involvement in Chandler High School athletics and for their contributions to community sports programs.

Welcoming Reception for City of Chandler’s New Museum Administrator Jody Crago
Join the Chandler Historical Society as we welcome the City of Chandler’s new Museum Administrator Jody Crago. Jody comes to Chandler from Wheaton, IL where he was the Director of the DuPage County Historical Museum.

City of Chandler’s Multi-Cultural Festival
Join the City of Chandler and the Chandler Museum as we celebrate the diversity of Chandler. Events include live singers and dancers, ethnic food booths, crafts and games. The Chandler Museum will have children’s crafts and activities available throughout the day.

FREE and open to the public.
Ernie Karkula will present the Karkula family history in Chandler from life in Goodyear in the 1920s to present day.

Saturday, February 9th – 10:00 am to 12:00 pm or 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at McCullough- Price House
Children’s Valentine Tea
Children ages 6-12 are invited to the McCullough-Price house to celebrate Statehood Day and Valentine’s Day.
Arizona and Valentine’s Day have been linked together since it was on Valentine’s Day 1912, when Arizona became the 48th state. Participants will listen to a storyteller in period costume describe the story of how Arizona became a state, enjoy tea and refreshments, and make a Valentine’s Day craft for someone special. This event is co-sponsored by the Urban Teal Loft and the California Pizza Kitchen.
The Valentine’s Tea is limited to the first 30 children who register by calling 480-782-2876. The event is free, however, a $5 donation is suggested. The activity is part of the ongoing Hands-On-History Program for Kids at the house, which is a recently restored historic residence that now serves as the City’s Visitors Center, an exhibit gallery, and event facility.
The McCullough-Price House and Visitors Center is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and there is no admission fee. It is located at 300 S. Chandler Village Drive, on the southwest side of the Chandler Fashion Center.

Chandler Ostrich Festival
The Chandler Chamber of Commerce hosts the Ostrich Festival at Tumbleweed Park at McQueen and Germann Roads in Chandler. Known as one of the most unique festivals in the country, the Ostrich Festival features food booths, vendor booths, Historic Tumbleweed Ranch and Ostrich races. Located near the ostrich race track is the City of Chandler and the Chandler Historical Society’s Historic Tumbleweed Ranch. This historic ranch features two restored historic homes, a red shed theater and the historic Boswell Cotton Gin. Visit Tumbleweed Ranch during the Ostrich Festival for games, crafts and living history presentations.
